Dec 12th, 2013An almost 15 year old Syrah that was just lovely. Nose is so complex with notes of roasted meat, soy, road tar and violets. There is a nice touch of plum and cassis fruit to accent the other aromas. Palate is rich and round but does not have the complexity of the nose. Lots of white pepper, earth and dried leaves with cassis and dried cherry fruit. A forgotten bottle in the cellar and a great treat.

Almost deceptively, a note of jam on initial nose but this was a blockbuster and more northern Rhone than I would've imagined. Meat, dark fruit, spice box, a little developing sous bois. Grippy at the end. Lots of life

The nose was so deceptive compared to the palate. Massive fruit on the nose, but the taste was earthy and balanced.

The deep saturated purple-colored '03 Ojai Syrah 'Stolpman Vyd.' has lush, creamy red and black currant flavors with tar, licorice and dried herb aromatics. This opulent wine also finishes with a savory persistence. Great with steak!
