The Cleaver
California Red Blend
Drank 12/22/18. Paired with ribs and a watermelon bbq sauce. The label makes no mention of the blend, but the flavors suggest Zin.
Initially a touch of wood on the nose, but this blows off quickly, yielding overripe blackberry, and brambly blueberry notes. Flavors all ripe jammy fruits with blackberry liquer and blueberry cobbler backed by medium tannins. No overt flaws, but I am just not a fan of this overripe, sunny California style. My advise is to drink it colder or have it with dessert.
For fans of a jammy, overripe style.

Beautiful purple in color with medium intensity and a wide purplish rim.
Fruity nose of cherries, sweet raspberries, smoke, oak, vanilla, licorice, red candy, spices and black pepper.
Medium plus in body, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with cherries, sweet strawberries, red currants licorice, light oak, spices, red candy, chocolates, peppercorn, dark coffee and tobacco leaf.
Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.
This Californian Red Blend is drinking very nicely now. Well balanced with mild complexity, and enjoyable by itself or with food. A good sipping wine and also good for parties.
Better than the 2013 vintage for some reason.
14.7% alcohol by volume.
