Felt right to try this for the draft....soft...a pinot drinkers cab. Not much going on.

Just to get the "bad news" out of the way, out of the whole line up of wines from 'The Calling' label, this wasn't my absolute favorite.
That being said, for a sub $40 cab, this bottle is delicious. From Alexander Valley, Sonoma, and drinking of typical character. Dark purple with a slightly blue hue to the rim, wafting ripe crushed blackberries and blueberries, a very subtle note of licorice, and vanilla. The pallet, rich in mouthfeel, delicately expressed tart blueberries, baking spice, pomegranate, and finished in a velvet, milk chocolate goodness. Although still quite an aproachable style, the acidity was medium plus, and the wine still quite young, so I would like to say that this bottle would drastically improve over the next 2-5 years.

Dark ruby in color with medium intensity.

On the nose, cloves, licorice, blackberries, strawberries, figs, vanilla, black pepper and alcohol.

Smooth and Dry on the palate with blueberries, blackberries, cherries, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with powerful tannins and some bitterness.

This is a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley featuring lots of secondary nuances from barrel aging.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Soft, like a Pinot. Good but not with the price point. Many better wines at this price.

I'm surprised other critics gave such a low rating. This was really not bad, I would serve this to guests for a starter wine along with savory or spicy appetizers.

Sweet aroma of plums spiced with clove, leather, and chocolate. Surprisingly lightweight on the palate, with notes of dark fruits, cedar leaf, and lightly roasted coffee. There's a hint of stalkiness here but it's well-integrated with satiny tannins. Somehow restrained yet totally gulpable.
