Corelium Priorat Carignane
The label portrays the Llicorella, which is the Catalan name for the type of soil in Priorat, which consists mainly of reddish-black slate. The soil of broken slate is poor and retains little water. This forces the roots of the plant to look for water in the deeper layers. The Corelium consists of 90% Cariñena and 40% Garnacha. In the glass it shows dark purple and on the palate dark plum and berries, chocolate and spices.

A surprise of unusual size (SUS). Best nose I can recall, super complex with wildflowers, blueberry pie, sweet balsamic, vanilla, meat, and a red berry finish. Usually not a big Spain fan due to the oak, but this kicks some serious ass!

Mar 24th, 2018Second time having this (August 2015). Found it better thank first time. Two hours in decanter. Silkier than before. Not as much mineral/stone/body as other priorats. I have others from the region I would prefer to have.
