Drinks like Italian Vacqeyras. Leaner but with more muscle; with lingering minerality, and smoky roasted fruit and herbs.

Beautiful feminine expression of aglianico, nose is full of that sweet basil i love, backed by scorched earth violets and plum jam. Ripe and exotic, silky and savory old school pure palate with no discernable wood. Fantastic at $35. 2009 vintage.

A very dry Italian red with bramble, forest floor, and just a bit too much flavor of lead, mud and rock on the finish to start with. The bitter aftertaste faded a bit over the course of a 90 minute decant, and absolutely vanished by day 2, picking up deep tobacco-striped fruit flavors that were almost Grenache-like in their assertive fruity character. A thought-provoking experience for $24.
