2021/1/13-15 with judías and roasted cabbage, chorizo and eggs, etc. This is one of my favorite Mencia-based wines, though this bottle was slightly more mercurial than usual. It opened a little leafy and smoky, perhaps a touch reduced, but with air it revealed that rocky but elegant red fruit - cherry and raspberry.

Send off dinner for a close friend who is moving to Leeds, England tomorrow. We shared this wine at the greatest dinner of our lives at Asador Etxebarri outside of Bilbao, Spain, so I thought it would be a great addition to his send off dinner. Extremely complex wine. Heavy notes of Dried dates and porcini mushrooms with a finish full of fresh rosemary, cherries macerated in balsamic vinegar and fresh cracked pepper.
