A very Bordeaux like nose initially. Lacking somewhat in mid palate fruit. Very leafy verging on the astringent which the Merlot is not ripe enough to cover. The following night a leafy asparagus note on the nose still with that leanish austere palate. Awatea is the 2nd wine of Te Mata. The number 1 wine is Coleraine which is arguably the leading Cabernet blend in New Zealand.

Pretty young thing from Hawkes Bay; floral and elegant, smooth and bright-fruited on the palate, tannins fresh, grainy and well behaved. Good.

Calm aroma with black currant. A bit spicy, but enough concentration, mid++, Bordeaux style. Quite high CP value! It is better to enjoy first 2/3 of the glass. @1200, T medoc - Pane e vino, 190906

Not what I expected. Tightly wound, needed a lot of aeration. Mineral and acidic, with some black current, and no green pepper. Ok nose, ok finish. Very cool climate tasting. Almost austere.
