Initial aromas of black plum, black pepper, herbs (thyme) a hint of bacon. Medium plus bodied palate with spicy, bloody flavours. Good density with ripe fruit from the 2016 vintage. Fine persistent tannins. This wine is still quite youthful and primary - possibly drunk a little young. Next in at least 2 years. Potential to be 95+ in the future. 18.5/20 from Jancis which is a high score from her. Had a second bottle 2 years later almost to the day. Similar notes to above without being a standout. Still can’t see how Jancis scored this at 18.5. I will do a more detailed note for the last bottle in 2 years +.

A beast. A bit too much. Showing ripeness of vintage. It’s delicious though. Much better day 2. Upped rating.

Taken to the outdoor theatre in Carmel. Dark and opaque. Exotic exciting nose. Notes of black cherry, dark soil, some menthol and some crushed granite stone. Always think of this as a poor mans La La and this fit that bill. Had a large stash of these and sadly it’s almost gone.

Dark purple tawny. Killer nose. Notes of smoked meats, black cherry, white pepper and exotic spices, some anise and some course gravel. Silky in the mouth. Long finish. A poor man’s La La.

BBQ at our friends. Nice pop and pour. Dark and opaque. Great Rhône Syrah nose. Notes of black cherry, graphite, pepper, slate stone, spice and some menthol. Nice mouth feel. Not as big as other vintages of this I’ve had but served its purpose well.

Reddish purple. Translucent. Youthful appearance. Very aromatic nose. Earthy, with notes of tart rhubarb, cherry, smoked meat and some menthol. Outstanding in the mouth. Balanced, yet powerful. Another strong showing.
