Really had a craving for a high acid white in the spring sun! This is from 90+ year old vines from the Saumur region. Upon opening there was a lot of sediment/turbidity and even some residual co2, which quickly blew off. I smell a beautiful dusty marzipan chenin nose. On the palate this has citrus, marzipan, a little peach and a popcorn like reduction. Obviously enough acidity. A little oxidation which adds to the complexity of the marzipan flavors. Gained balance after 30 minutes. Next bottle in a year or so if I can keep my hands off them.

From 60- to 80-year-old Chenin Blanc vines on clayey-calcareous soils at the border from Saumur and Anjou, the dark lemon-colored 2014 Vin de France La Perlée was aged for 30 months on the lees (no racking!) and is pure and mineral on the deep and concentrated nose that reveals beautiful lemon oil aromas. On the palate, this is an intense, ripe, rich, soft and elegant Chenin structured by very fine tannins that lead to a very long and complex, stimulating salty finish. Bottled in spring 2017 with moderate 12% alcohol and 42 milligrams per liter of total SO2, this is a weightless and tender, almost caressing Chenin with great complexity and charm. Irresistible. Substantially above a tasting that included more prestigious appellations and more expensive bottles, all in the same region and all in chenin blanc. Best VfM of a very enjoyable tasting. Nice balance and yet a subtle acidity leaving much to hope for latter years. Drink some, keep some.
