Kastanienbusch Riesling

Super confectionery aromatics. Loads of citrus and it leans towards grapefruit. Juicy and sleek. Loads of juicy grapefruit. Lovely texture and energy. Great acid and also fleshy grapefruit that is pink and red. So pure and so Pfalz. Not quite ripe enough to see the classic pfalz nectarine/peach. Which i’m ok with.

What a wine. Terrific nose of citrus fruits, spice and stone fruits. Lots of tangelo and peach. Huge minerals looming. Wow the aromas are magic after 9 years of age. 9.6 nose. So clean. Almost a lanolin like thing as well. Palate is so pure and balanced. Great concentration and sap with huge minerals and lots of fleshy tangelo and peach but finishes super mineral and dry. Very complex and still has great structure. Brilliant stuff and has at least 10 years ahead of it.

Huge and expansive nose with peach flesh, lime zest and lime pith, gorgeous clear minerals and ocean breeze. Saline as well. Melon and cantaloupe as well. Gorgeous clarity of aroma as well. Palate is unreal. So compact and clean. Superb presence, purity and balance. Really accessible for a young Kastanienbusch. Juicy and fresh with such a wonderful acid and mineral balance. Amazingly pure with gorgeous citrus and peach fruit. Serene and complete with a hidden structure that suggests medium term aging. Finishes mineral and very juicy. Lingers.

Nose seems closed. Some light peach flesh, tree bark, dusty minerals and peach skin. Palate though is electric with super high and grippy acids and lovely lemon and peach fruit. So clean and so juicy but seems a bit closed with muted aromas. Will keep following this. Nose coming alive now with stunning wet earth and deep minerals. Now this has come alive even more with serious minerality that this wine is known for. Luscious and juicy. But to be fair this is the weakest Kastanienbusch since I’ve worked with Sven.

Wow. What an insane complex nose. Citrus pith, awesome confectionary aromas. Really really aromatic grapefruit. Pink with sugar. Huge minerals and rocks. Smells almost volcanic. Complex, deep and super duper closed but also a gorgeous pitter patter of minerals. Perfect balance. Most closed young Kastanienbusch ever. But the energy and purity are out of this world. So elegant and finesse driven but with so much material. Finish is getting longer and fanning out. So complete and no extra flesh like in 18.

Been almost 3 years since I’ve had this last. Outstanding nose. Clear, mineral, peach, apricot, so lithe, complex and mineral. Holding back even a bit as it’s narrowly focused but waiting to expand. Powdery minerals and crushed rocks start to develop. Palate is sappy and clean. Very pure and clean. Citrus. Tangelo, ripe mandarin orange sprinkled with spice and minerals. Juicy and very long. Very textured and ripe but man that energy and acid. What freshness. Pulls of the rich/tense combo like only the Pfalz can and the finishes with intense spice and then a hit of opulence that just sits there on your back of palate. Really great and has a decade of life minimum ahead.

Nose is all pith. Stone fruits, huge minerals, palate is complex, deep, long, very pure, very clean, stunning depth. But needs air. Sugar snap peas with air, confectionary, complexity gains with air, white pepper, so so aromatic. Palate is young but stuffed with fruit and has many savory elements. Pure and clean. What a finish. Long, complex.

Wow. What a high toned nose, peach, peach pit, citrus, superbly clean and pure. Iodine like minerality. Citrus zest. Lime zest. Super intense and bright palate, what a powerhouse, it is so packed. Pure. High toned. Explosion of tropical fruits. Massive structure, the cleanliness of this wine is stunning. What a finish of complex rock candy. Sweet saline. Citrus. Mineral sweetness. Lime blossom. Just a massive wine with huge extract, huge structure, huge texture, huge acids. Dramatic and coiled. Balanced, clean and elegant. Nice acid wash at the end. Cleans your palate.

Not the earliest drinking Riesling but had to for science! Nose is so pretty. Floral, honeysuckle, peach skin, melon and spice. So deep and detailed. Ripe. Palate is ripe and juicy with lovely mouthfeel and feels a bit disjointed right now. But it’s all there. Klundt’s Kastanienbusch can close hard and reemerge after 4-5 years. 13 is insane right now. 9.1 for now. But seems 17’s might be closing or closed.

Stunning, lime rock candy, mandarin orange, peach, apricot. Palate is a force as nature. So Elegant, complex, limestoney, all the acids, so pure and fresh, deep and insane.
