Estate Alexander Valley Chardonnay

I will admit.. I dont typically like warmer climate Chard - for my personal preferences, they tend to be overly ripe, overly oaked and flabby. Maybe that is a gross overreaction to new world Chardonnay.
However, this one surprised me. I haven't had any Chardonnay from Alexander Valley, which is more known for warm climate bold red varietals such as Cabernet and Zinfandel.. but it was well balanced, with lush acidity, ample NOT overripe fruit, well integrated nutty and buttery nuances, tropical fruit characteristics... overall for ~$30, great effort. Only complaint is that the finish falls just a tad too quickly... but it has a definite Mersault/St Aubin feel about it, which is what I enjoy. Definitely worth hunting down if you haven't tried this producer.

Located a stone's throw from Chalk Hill and the RRV. Aromas of fruit and toasty oak spice. On the palate pear, apple and hints of peach with citrus notes and nice round oaky tones. Medium+ finish ending with a creamy mineral edge.

What I lived on in at the resort in Kaua unless at lunch or dinner. I’ll never be a fan of CA Chard’s. I’m exceptionally picky. Light oak, no butter and fruit forward but it runs flat. It would be a lot better if it were steel barrel wine and if it is it could’ve fooled me.
