Napa Valley Syrah

Day 1: Peppercorn, olive, and forest floor drove the wine. Plenty of spice on the palate and mod acid/no oak/agreeable tannin made for an excellent partner to winter squash and chicken vindaloo. Fruit almost brambly, just ripe across the bored. Day 2: fading quick, showed marked oxidation over night, lost a lot of hillside syrah character for more fruit, beginning to move towards compote. Juicy and still appealing, but makes me wonder about future evolution of the wine. Anyway, I’m always stoked to have these soulful wines and find their Syrah project to capture a more St. Joseph style, delicious, aromatic, and approachable early. Happy we didn’t cellar this any longer

Very clean wine, VA not too crazy, but maybe too polished. Last night it was a bit tight, this morning it sings with Syrah goodness.

All neutral oak. Pure and light on its feet, great mouthfeel. Perfumed nose with green apple and pear 🍐. Good minerality.

12.5% alcohol. A bit sharp with the acid, but on the second day... Unreal.

Black olives and eucalyptus. Nice stuff.

Perhaps my favorite from Stony Hill. Not as robust as their cab, but not pinot noir either. Some earth, raspberry, vanilla. Lovely on a winter's day.

Really lovely. Some fruit, some smoke, refreshing red. Maybe the most underrated of their wines.

Elegant, well-integrated and darn tasty. Drink now.

A bit thin for a Syrah. Scant fruit on the palate, dry and restrained. Tannins under control.

A bit fruity at first, but overall very good and balanced. Definitely would benefit from more time, and developed a lot throughout the evening.
