Staglin Family Vineyard
25th Anniversary Selection Rutherford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
What a treat, tonight I have been given the pleasure of opening this 2002 Staglin family 20th Anniversary Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. This was sent to me by a very good friend to try and I don't know how I got so lucky to be afforded this opportunity. I am keeping an open mind and going to rate this as honestly as I possibly can.
Upon opening there was a bit of an alcohol aroma, so I figured I better let it set for a bit to open up and see if the alcohol blows off. After about an hour it did just that and the aromas became very pronounced.
On the nose I am getting wonderful black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, black plum, cassis, molasses and licorice.
My anticipation of the first taste was palpable. Upon the first sip the dark fruit washes over the palate with black cherry, blueberry, ripe plum, cassis, there are notes of black pepper, licorice and a nice supple finish of black tea.
This wine has medium + acidity and silky medium + tannins. I can say the balance of this wine is totally in unison with a long savory finish.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to have tried such an excellent wine. I can't say thanks enough. What a way to end the weekend. I can now look forward to the week ahead with great expectations.
Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷💚

Think this is drinking at or close to its peak. Great wine.
