Sottimano
Langhe Nebbiolo
It’s either bottle variation or that the 2+ months of rest time has done this wonders. It was so different from the first bottle. This was all red berries, menthol, tobacco, and spice. Good energy, though the warmth does come through. Chewy tannins with a bittersweet finish, touched by some mineral and woody elements. Enjoyable, though I would have liked some floral notes.

Jun 24th, 2022Bit too much raw oak, but I bet it will develop well over time. Still lovey Nebbiolo.

Mar 25th, 2022The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo is fresh, vibrant and absolutely delicious. Sweet floral and red berry notes are front and center in this gorgeous, translucent Langhe Nebbiolo from Sottimano. In 2018, the fruit came from the Vigna del Parroco section of Basarin. Rose petal, lavender, mint and spice all linger on the finish. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2020)

Sottimano’s 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo is a terrific example of the year. Crushed flowers, spice and bright red berry fruit all meld together in this very pretty, expressive Nebbiolo from Barbaresco-designated vineyards. The 2016 is an overachieving wine in its peer group, and absolutely delicious. $25.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2019)

Nov 4th, 2018100% Barbaresco, declassified younger vines (20 years) from one of the top crus in Neive. This is a real bargain, but needs another 2-3 years in bottle to reveal fruit character. A more austere treatment than their Barbaresco designated wines, but with at least intermediate term cellaring potential and about half the price. I would have decanted this another 2-3 hours if possible, but I suspect the young tannins might still overshadow the youthful fruit character. Wait for this one.

2 people found it helpfulAug 11th, 2015The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is a great example of the year at its best. Freshly cut flowers, raspberry, spice, mint and cinnamon give this racy, beautifully perfumed Langhe Nebbiolo its undeniable appeal. The 2020 is an especially fine vintage for this bottling, as it has fabulous balance. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)
