Deserto Verdicchio Classico Superiore
This is NOT the Verdicchio DOC but an IGT Marche (not sure why). But it sure tastes like a nice Verdicchio. Intense nose has bitter herb, straw, stony minerality, and a bit of almond extract. It’s also intense and somewhat weighty (for the region) in the mouth, bone dry, with flavors of dried meadow brush and minerals. Medium acids. Bitter note as the finish progresses. Not a fruit-centered wine. Would be a nice contrast with sweet shellfish like grilled shrimp or simply-seared scallops.
