Peter's wines aren't ones I usually consider cellar-worthy (which is not a criticism at all). So when I reached for this, lost in my cellar and opened as emergency accompaniment for Filipino chicken salad, expectations were...adjusted. Somehow it succeeded on both counts. Still structured and rich, with an earthy base layer to match the relaxed black fruit, and not a trace of the heat or weight I would've expected out of a 15.3% abv Napa cab from 2006. Its plush, gentle nature also suited the spicy-sweet food nicely. Not the kind of thing I usually drink, or even enjoy at all, really, but this hit the spot when it really didn't need to do anything other than simply exist.

The age on this 2006 mellowed the fruit on this cab and left all the velvet smoothness I enjoy.
