Sine Qua Non
The Line Grenache
Central Coast, California, USA

Startlingly concentrated. Stewed blackberry. While the quality is without question, I find this just so jammy, hot and sweet, it’s hard to enjoy fully. Grenache on steroids.

As if Part 1 of Saturday night wasn’t incredible enough, Part 2 of the final and main event for the Fall WNH was all Sine Qua Non wines. The most spectacular lineup of wines I’ve ever seen, and an overall wonderful ending to an amazing trip with fantastic people.
SQN. En mag. 😳 What an absolute monster of a bottle! It is both floral and spicy on the nose, revealing toasted potpourri and baked blackberry & rhubarb pie. Powerful on the palate with underripe blackberries, peppered plum, and black cherry liqueur. Tremendous in every way. What a way to seal your hosting, @Shawn R !

Excellent grenache from Manfred at SQN...but not etherial. As I'm writing that I realize that this is still awesome - just that Manfred sets the bar absurdly high. Blackberries, kirsch, and a hint of licorice on the nose. Very full mouthfeel with lots of glycerin. The wine is a lot more evolved than I was expecting - possibly a consequence of a warm vintage? - so I'm not sure how many more years of evolution this has left (then again, this is my last bottle of this, so whateves!). Manfred is a genius. 'Nuff said.

Jan 1st, 2015Holy moly, where did this one come from!? This had the nose of full throttle drunken elderberries and freshly baked blackberry pie with pepper and spice and everything nice! This tastes like whole cluster Grenache If there really is such a thing. Black and blue, pepper and spice, black cherry cola, mouth coating, inky. Dissecting out all of the notes that were swirling around, it would take me probably an hour, and everyone would be bored and probably stop reading. This was massive. And has probably a couple of decades left!
