Silver Oak
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, California, USA
Another oldie for my birthday - I have generous family! My first old Silver Oak bottle, this is dominated by American oak, with lots of vanilla, coconut, molasses, dark chocolate, eucalyptus and mint. Dark ripe and dried fruit is nicely integrated but secondary to the wood. This was like drinking a hot chocolate or chai spiked with bourbon. Actually very delicious and easy drinking but I can see why this gets a lot of people riled up, especially considering it’s price.

Mar 20th, 2018We brought some cellared wine on our recent trip and the silver oak came out early on. This vintage seams to have gone away a little. Still lovely but a little flat on the pallet. Still fruit as expected and a silky mouth feel. If you've got 94, drink it soon.

Wood, a lot of wood. Black, brambly, primary fruit, still has time, no bricking, a lot of American Oak.

Oct 30th, 2016Wine outperformed my expectations. Lasted for hours even with decant. Actually got better and did not shut down. I love the old school version of this wine.
