Bottle says Petite Verdot. Rusty red in the glass. Smells of cooked fruits, red berry jams and linseed oil. Maybe a brick in the heat too. Drinks a bit hot (although it’s only 12% abv) with a brandy streak, but the berry sauce flavor is nice, and it’s got a certain elegance. A bit like a Spanish Rioja Tempranillo style of wine. Not the thick, opulent, berry syrup that some New World Petite Verdot is. Very reserved tannins, but a nice balance. This is a decent red that aged fairly well. Has juicy flavor and pairs with grilled figs, goat cheese and prune balsamic pretty nicely. At $11 it’s also a bargain.
