Premier Napa Valley Barrel samples. The Shafer Sunspot was fairly tight, structured with good balance & length that will need 5-10 yrs to open where the Spottswoode was open & drinking well with lovely fruit & spice. Group preferred the Spottswoode for its immediate pleasure.

Cabernet night with the guys. Started with a few whites.

This was a fun wine. I like to consume my Cabs much earlier than this but definitely a treat.

This was by far one of the best barrel samples I tasted all week. Could be the auction winner this year. Won't be bottled for more than another year, yet showed a purity and elegance you just wouldn't expect from a barrel sample. Bright red fruit offset by wet earth, new French oak, and a core of clean, bright acidity. Pretty damn gorgeous, even with an exhausted palate. This will be an amazing treat for one very fortunate bidder.
