Hillside Select is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 32 months in 100% new French oak. Deep Ruby with purple edges, pronounced aromas of red/black fruits, with hints of cedar, floral, oak & spice. On the palate flavors of concentrated ripe blackberry with cherry and raspberry preserves, pepper spice, leather and savory fine tannins, well balanced and absolutely decadent. Long finish, great structure ending with fruit, spice and earthy mineral character. Truly an outstanding Cab! Will age well! Tasting Sample

The 2005 Shafer ‘Hillside Select’ Cabernet Sauvignon is starting to hit its upper register at now the fourteen year mark. The tertiary notes entice aromatically with its wild mushroom and damp earth tones that combine with the dense core of dark fruits and cocoa powder on this exotic bouquet. Silky smooth throughout, the 2005 ‘Hillside Select’ glides effortlessly across the mid-palate, unveiling its gorgeous mouthfeel and texture. Blackberry cobbler and mocha flavors mingle with the lovely earthy and tertiary tones on the palate. Fantastic now, the 2005 ‘Hillside Select’ is starting to peak and should drink well for at least another ten years. Drink 2019-2032- 95

My brother in-law,Bob, standing next to me in blue brought this beauty to the party last night: 2010 Shafer Hillside Select.
What an incredibly well made wine with nuances and layers which seemed endless! We kept talking about this wine all night! What a great side by side comparison it was against the 2009 Chateau L'Evangile! 100 point Bourdeaux & 100 point Cali !!!
I picked up a super faint nose of petrol which intrigue the hell out of me all night! It was awesomeness in a glass!! The palate was gorgeous with highlights of dark fruit, vanilla and a little bit of minerality which was perfectly intertwined into the body of this beauty. The finish was long and strong.
