Delicious Pinot-based traditional method sparkling wine from Schramsberg. This is en tirage for 6 years in caves and gets a lovely nutty and biscuity flavor that is complemented beautifully by flavors of golden apples and pears. Creamy mouthfeel yet high acid with a long, yet bright finish. Great presence of tiny bubbles. Simply beautiful. I do prefer the J Schram from Schramsberg (it is Chard-based with a similar time on the lees). This was a magnum.

Stunning wine. Fresh and full of flavor. There really is nothing better than a bottle of bubbles! And no better way to end a Monday.

When rummaging through the cellar looking for the right bubbles for our anniversary breakfast, it's always nice to find surprises. In this case, I found two of these bottles, so good to see how it's going after 14 1/2 years. Dark, golden color. Much darker than I am used to seeing from Schramsberg Reserve. Slightly less than medium carbonation, not a surprise given the relative age. On the nose, toasted almonds and lemons. On the palate, well balance acidity. A little sweet on the first sip, but that quickly faded. In addition to the toasted almonds and citrus, brioche, some peaches and tropical fruit. The Reserve continues to be an excellent choice. I think my bottle had a leak or something, because there's no way we drank it this fast.

What is Mother's Day without some serious bubbly? Always a Sunday morning favorite, and the 2005 is so very smooth!
