Scherrer Vineyard Old and Mature Vines Zinfandel

Not many Zins improve with age, at least not this much bottle age. Scherrer’s are an exception, and exceptional.

Always impressed by Fred Scherrer's wines. Substantial zin (14.8 alc) but balanced & somehow light on its feet as well.

This is just an all around awesome wine. Big but bursting with bright red fruit flavors. Spicy, chocolatey, even silky. Completely dry. Finish is long and fragrant. Excellent.

Still young and vibrant and takes time to open and develop.

Definitely old and mature, dark raisiny fruit and acid still kicking.

Enjoyed revisiting this opulently jammy and robust Zin on its own. Ripe cherry, juicy plum, as well as prominent but seamlessly integrated spices thanks to some responsible use of new French oak.

Either I'm in a good Zin place or I have just been opening the right bottles lately.

VinePair long night ahead

Dark cherry, plum, smoke, graphite, mint and a touch of cedary spice. Silky tannins and balanced acid. Looong mineral finish. This bottle has aged beautifully.
