Burnt cherry nose. Smooth and initially balanced in the mouth with cherry, blackberry and cedar. Tannins kick in mid-palate. The back end of the palate falls off too quickly and it could use more acid in the finish. The aftertaste disappoints, unfortunately for a wine that starts with promise.

Iodine in color. The nose presents American oak, black and yellow raisins, prunes, and menthol. The palate starts with spiced red fruit and trends toward a spiced sangria and then an herb liquor like Unicum. The alcohol level seems higher than the 13.9% disclosed on the bottle. High acid and moderate plus tannins, the finish leaves cola notes lingering. Not really a sipping wine, this Claret yearns for juicy hamburger.

I opened this in May 2016. We just bought this with Scheid. First taste was more sweet and cherry favor. Soft tannins. . Kept overnight in fridge, next day the wine showed age structure, maturity, blackberry nose, leathery finish, Beautiful balance. We paid members price $52.

Tannin was relaxed, ruby red color and light tobacco fixture.. Had some exchange from sweet red fruits like strawberries to dark reds like cherries. Smoother texture, perfect time to drink it.

Took more time to settle down when I tried them in 2008. The wine is delicious from the start.
