Another solid effort from Scarpa - this one a 1999 Dolcetto. Despite being over 16 years old, this wine still has rip-your-face off tannins. But behind those tannins is a funky, earthy Dolcetto that keeps evolving in the glass. Oh, and this is a Wine by the Glass offering at Eastern Standard in Boston right now!

Crazy QPR for a 18 year old wine! Just released from the winery last year. On first open it was dirt, then berries and a ring of acid, but a few minutes later all the pieces integrated and the wine showed a bit of its age. Easy drinking.

"Little sweet one" my patootie! This is still tightly wound & grippy but is throwing off tons of earth and dark fruit. Little thin on the mid-palate though. Pass the blue foot chanterelle lasagna....

'99 Dolcetto. I have not known Dolcetto to be age-worthy, particularly at a modest price point, but apparently I have merely been ignorant.
