Super complex and interesting blend. Shows tons of black pepper on the entry and finishes all cocoa and chocolate.

Nothing says I love you like Saxum. That being said, I prefer their Rhone focused wines.

A perfect summer evening in Michigan, the 2012 version of this wine from Justin is drinking beautifully right now (the expression on Vanessa’s face notwithstanding - pretty sure that’s for something I likely said!). What the wine has lost in terms of primary fruit it has gained in secondary flavors. Still zin-driven in the profile, but the morvedre and tempranillo in the blend is coming through much moreso than the last time I opened one of these in 2017. Not convinced this is going to get better, so if you have this in your cellar, I recommend opening it soon and enjoy.

Really enjoyable, huge wine. Not sure I understand the craze though. At $100/bottle I’ve had equivalent experiences for much less from nearby vineyards.

Awesome. Much smoother than I was expecting - not sure if this has another decade of evolution as the wine mags seem to suggest - but it is balanced, intense, and elegant.

Drinking perfect. Grew in weight and expressed darker roasted fruits the longer it decanted. Nice little Thursday night treat.
