This was off-the-charts. From what I consider Justin Smith’s single greatest vintage ever - 2007 - this earlier version of the Booker Vineyard cuvee is almost all syrah (only 5% grenache in the blend). Just a spectacular wine. Has lost some of the power it had a few years ago, but now is acquiring some more nuanced components to it. I suspect this will still develop a bit along these lines for a couple of more years...but it’s pretty hard to resist right now.
