This week’s choice is the Peruvian Intipalka, Valle del Sol, 2012. The fruit flavours in this Tannat are quite different from what we’re used to. Deep red, almost black. Intense on palate with a smooth earthy finish. Very nice with red meat.

There are certain varietals that when you have for the first time, kinda of leave you scratching your head like “why didn’t I try this before?” This was certainly in that category. Rich, ripe, delicious black fruit with mild tannins, really balanced earthiness and full-bodied structure. I could’ve easily believed this was a claret from Bordeaux. Instead it’s from a far corner of Peru. Go figure. I would highly recommend giving this a try!
