A blend of 6 vintages - 2020 (51%), 2019 (31%), 2018 (3%), 2017 (8%), 2016 (5%), and 2015 (2%). From the Hoffmann’s Dallwitz vineyard. 6327 bottles filled. Aromatics of old vine Barossa Shiraz. The fruit is so plush and ample together with liquorice, chocolate, blue fruits, and spices that it masks the M plus tannins. I note that Fraser likes to taste these Little Wines “when primal and vital, a year or two after vintage “. I totally agree. I have tasted Little Wines with over 5 years of cellaring and find that you are giving up that freshness and vitality for a limited increase in savoury profile. The secondary value of Sami-Odi wines have increased dramatically in recent years. I paid $55 per bottle on release and note that United Cellars are now selling for $325. All the more annoying when I broke a bottle unpacking the tricky little cartons of 3 when I received them. The odd 4 letter word was uttered!!! Therefore I have one left for future enjoyment.

Broken record, I know, but there is no wine on this planet that smells as good as these (IMO). I feel like one of those old-school cartoons where the aromas lift you off the ground and bring you in. Fraser is a wizard.

Decanted two hours before consumption. 2020 (51%), 2019 (31%), 2018 (3%), 2017 (8%), 2016 (5%) & 2015 (2%).

As expected, the aromatics are like fireworks going off…they are bright, enthralling, sensory overload. Dark floral bouquet, boysenberry, sweet cassis, sandalwood. Purple in the glass and as you expect a monster to hit your palate, it’s fairly elegant but extremely layered. Gorgeously fresh. These always have a weightless depth and gravitas to them, similar to what I find in Scarecrow. Mesmerizing notes of dark cocoa, dark plum, freshly squeezed blue and black fruits, hint of candied bacon, and a flair of herbal spice. Finish is lengthy, juicy, delicious.

I’ve been fortunate to have quite a bit SamiOdi, and this undoubtedly is the best LittleWine I’ve had. I probably underscored this. 95+

Switching gears and changing lanes. New bathroom done!
We are a touch surprised by this example.. Vegetal notes on the nose transition to the palate. Nice weight and texture on the mid-palate, with perfect acidity. Notes of coffee, autumn leaves and brown sugar, but not sweet on the finish. Slight meaty note completes a good but not great example.
Day 2. Revising my score downwards.
