Oct 1st, 2017The first of 5 wines tasted at the Salcheto Enoteca. I could wax prolifically about this winery, it's short history, sustainable and organic philosophies, hipster winemaker, and beautiful Val D'Orcia location (which required Mr Google to find!), but I'll leave that to interested readers to research. Suffice to say they are poster children for "off the radar" and very worthy to seek out - I'll be curious to see their availability once I get back to the States.
Obvius is their "natural wine" lineup...no sulfites of chemical intervention of any kind either in the vineyard or winery. This Rosato was comprised of typical Chianti component grapes plus traces of the minor Bdx varietals. Color was medium orange-copper, nose (better for me than palate) of herbs, dark berries, and mesquite (yeah I know that is weird). Palate got very funky, rich, and slightly effervescent, with some smoke and moderate acidity. Not really my cup of tea but an interesting pushing of the boundaries of what we all think regarding rosé.
