Lights out. Knock out. Thought this might be past its prime, but the first whiff raised an eyebrow and the first sip made me howl like Ric Flair. Stunning and right at its apogee. The best Northern California Syrah I’ve ever tasted. Decadent blackberry and boysenberry, with an array of meat from coppa to bacon, and seasoned to the hilt with pepper. Clove, leather, and lavender, with savory minerality that is killer.

Ruby red with a wide brim and cherry accents. The fruit on the nose has receded a bit mostly showcasing the more savory aspects. Bacon fat, dried herbs, and dark chocolate dominate along with blackberry. This is drinking just about perfectly right now with excellent balance and the tannins still showing some firmness. On the palate, those savory notes come back into play but with more pronounced fruit. The blue and blackberries, raspberries, and spices are prevalent here. This really is reminiscent of Northern Rhône Syrah and that’s never a bad thing.

Tried to hold off as long as I could on my last bottle, but hit the wall after two years. So much going on. Classic Syrah profile with blueberry, dark fruits, olive tapenade and meat. Excellent.
