After three unsuccessful Piemontese pulls to go with my Piemontese dish, I finally decided that the wine pairing gods were sending me a signal, so like Justice William O. Douglas, I went west, [not so] young man. And this Grenache-based blend was very nice. Nose had warm, mossy stones, warm kirsch, roasted herbs and campfire. Mouthfilling fruit on entry, but very quickly turns savory and minerally. A bit more tannic than previous vintages I’ve had of this wine.

Drinking beautifully, this wine’s nose shows sultry scents of baking spice, smoky gravel, ripe, oozing red berries, and aged beef. Intensely-flavored, with very clingy savory and dark fruit notes. Long and a tad peppery on the mouth coating finish. Low acids but it works.

Starting to soften just slightly and drinks well now with a short decant. Bright red fruits from the grenache, some darker and more savory elements from the mourvedre and just a touch of syrah which I can’t pick out on the palate but makes for a nice bouquet.

A well made red that showcases the bright and crisp grenache fruit at this young stage. Shows structure with medium+ acidity and some mild tannin. The mourvedre and syrah components are just peaking out from behind the wall of grenache and should add some interesting complexity down the road.

Lush and savory. Loads of ashy minerality with dark black berry fruit underneath. Texturally it’s the bomb. Just soaks to all parts of your mouth. Lots of Walla Walla fruit?

Pleasant nose of herbs and spices with a little dark fruit. Most expressive on the palate! Pure red fruits and lean tannins with a fairly long finish. I wish the nose caught up to the flavors.

Beautifully perfumed nose. Tons of desert roses, tar, kirsch, and dry earth. Lively Grenache with body from the Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Wow. This is quite hedonistic. Nose has musky florals, oozy plum and blackberry, and smoky stony notes. Intense and rich in the mouth, with a remarkable balance between rich berry fruit and savory notes. Very sultry. Jackie Brown. At its apex.

Nose gives off sultry and low-toned scents of cracked dark stones, a note of iodine, and smoky crushed dark blackberry. Mouthfilling, soft, and with broad swaths of dark minerality. Very savory, with a clingy tactile quality. I swear, the basaltic rocks and silt in Walla Walla really do unique things to grapes grown there. So good.

From our family GSM tasting/get together. All wines tasted single blind.

Very pure fruit in the nose, good mid-palate concentration, nice length and balance. Maybe lacked complexity. (Although this was not the consensus
#1 pick, it was the first bottle emptied.)
