Educated Guess Carneros 2013 pinot noir from California. Well Napa, stick to cabs and leave pinots alone! This is not a bad pinot noir, but for 36 dollars... NO !
I had to decant for 45 minutes before I could drink it fairly for rating. Granted, the cork had a deep absorption line which tells me it has been over heated in this bottle, so I almost don't want to rate it. Yes I did buy this from Kroger!!!! Don't judge, because I also bought another bottle of Elouan there for $20. So, the color is very dark for a pinot noir. The bouquet is reminiscent of ripe cherries and strawberry jam. The initial palate is slightly reminiscent of plums and ripe figs and - No Cherries! - but hints of pepper and something very similar to a Malbec characteristic. It's a good thing this is not a blind tasting , I would lose! The finish is quick and empty! Hum.

Nose of slightly cured meat an pepper. Initially fruit forward with a peppery finish. Beautiful in color. Royal.

2013. This old organic chemist could not pass on this Pinot Noir from Napa. It has a full heady aroma of dark fruit like dark cherry and plum, . Tastes also include tart dark cherry and plum with a velvety smooth texture. The fruit flavors persist and are intermingled with a mildly drying and long lasting oak flavor. And best of all the CH3-CH2-OH puts a happy smile on my face! This wine went great with barbecue ribs, corn and sautéed asparagus. Very yummy!
