Last bottle of the ‘18. It’s pretty much at its peak. Intense limestoney minerality balanced by just enough ripe fruit green apple/citrus pith fruit. A very subtle green herbal note in the background. Round-textured in the mouth initially, u til the intense minerality puts on its geology show-and-tell. Nice acids. A pleasant mouthful of rocks, basically.

Year in and year out, this is one of my go-to Sancerres. Nose is super fresh, with equilibrium between crisp, just-ripe orchard fruit, a hint of green herb, and clean, stony minerality. Nice balance in the mouth as well. The fruit is ripe, but not too ripe, and it’s bone dry with a refreshingly chalky stone finish. Good (medium +) acids.

Old vines Sancerre and Kamala! A winning combination! The wine’s nose has loads of intense, limestoney minerality, and zesty gooseberry fruit, ripe enough to give off a hint of tropicality. A bit of green gage (is that one word or two?). Perfect on a sultry August evening to accompany pecan-grilled haddock fillets. Here’s to November 3!

Wines from last night’s dinner (impressionistic memory notes).

Consistently one of the top Sancerre every vintage in my view. Perfectly just ripe fruit, beautiful limestoney minerality, nice acids.

Truncated notes because this was drunk during a dinner party where I was cooking. This showed beautifully. No grass or cat pee, just crisp fruit and beautifully chalky minerality. Gorgeous balance.

Really nice. Nose is flinty and chalky, with ripe lime and green apple fruit. Intense and refreshing, the tight, clean minerally and citrus zest flavors cling to the palate. Everything in nice balance. Excellent value.

This is the last of 4 bottles I bought 3 years ago. With age, the grassy, gooseberry Sauvignon character has receded and there is a crystalline minerality taking its place. Almost Chablis- like. Still great acids and freshness. Delicious.
