Oh fun low key on the tannins for Tannat and it is working for me even though I do like to abuse my mouth with too-young Nebbiolos but let’s all treat ourselves well in this pandemic ya?

Spiced raspberry cider with delightfully astringent orange peel. A bit thick, more on the sweet end, unexpected. This is a fall campfire wine.

Dark near-black purple that clings to the glass. Blackberry, black blueberry, caramel on the nose and full palate. Medium acidity. Medium tannins (appropriate for its age). Lengthy dark finish. Fine New World representation of the variety.

Tastes of blueberries, raspberries, chocolate with a slight tobacco finish.

This wine gives the lie to the popular and too often accurate conceit that big wines are not balanced. This has the best of the Rosenblums written all over it: big dark fruit, high octane, and major juice appeal, all packed up in a grippy, concentrated, well structured package. $20 a couple of years ago. This has the acids and depth to go several more years. Glad I cracked it open tonight.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the first and only 90 point rated Tannat from California, or even North America for that matter. But that's not what makes this wine awesome, it's the juice inside

Aged Yolo County Tannat. With a whimsical name. Dark color with a rusty edge. Smells a bit funky. Spike of berry liquor. Hint of wood chips. Flavors are very heavy on the black currant with a hint of plummy-ness. Might be a bit past perfection. Not as much as much tannin and funk as some Tannat, but has plenty of style. Drinks a bit like a French wine. Wonder who is using these grapes now that Rockwall is out of business?

Beautiful dark purple color. Great dark fruit on the nose. The tannins are very nice and balanced as you would expect from a california tannat. Again lots of fruit and a hint of tobacco with a pleasant lingering finish. Wish I had bought more!
