I noticed on my recent trip to Napa that many wineries are starting to produce Petit Verdot bottles. That being said, not many people can do it very well. In fact, aside from the Hope & Grace PV, this is the best I’ve had in terms of ones I’d purchase again. Needs a solid 60-90mins to open. Chalky, blackberries, currant, and quite earthy on the nose. Still evolving on the palate and finish, but mainly blackberry and an earthy, tannic structure. Great potential.

This is the Alexander Valley 2011 Petit Verdot. Beautiful and balanced with a deep dark broodiness. Black fruit, spice, and very chewy tannins. Perfect with the right meaty and greasy foods.

2012 bottling with a little more testosterone than the 11....but it's actually quite surprising how little the 11 and 12 really differ even though 2011 was an "off year".... testament to the resiliency of the variety and talent of the winemaker to produce a stunning single variety Petit Verdot that is floral, fruity, dark, and fig newton all rolled into one.
