Robert Mondavi Winery
My 50th Harvest Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvigon
Needless to say, we slayed some dragons tonight. Let the birthday week continue!
My second bottle of birth Year wine. Best part about this was comparing against the '87 @Mark Flesher brought out. As I mentioned in my previous note, the '87 had the better bouquet and start. '87 was considered a phenomenal vintage and it showed at the beginning of the wine, BUT, my '88 came around and stole the spotlight for the finish. It started ramping up in weight on the mid palate and towards the finish with some fruit roll up blackberry, licorice, and plum. The finish was still acidic which showed this still has another 3+ yrs of life...amazing! Many thanks to @Weston Eidson for gifting me this bottle!

@Mark Flesher decided to bust out this '87 Mondavi cab and compare it to my birth year wine, the '88 Mondavi Reserve cab. Upfront, this one took the cake. The initial bouquet and taste on the palate was astounding for 30yrs old. Still a good amount of fruit left, like fig and rhubarb, but the finish had begun to wane. Still, what a treat to taste alongside the '88 and see a vintage difference!
