Robert Biale Vineyards
Like Father Like Son Napa Valley Syrah Blend
Nose has ripe blackberry, blueberry jam on toast, seasoned oak firewood, over-ripe plum and moist cinnamon.
Palate has semi-dried blueberry jam, over-ripe black cherry, cedar shavings, moist leather and blackberry concentrate. Very long finish, heavy on the palate, slightly astringent, nose has notable alcohol. Decanted +4H, more time appreciated.
Suggest holding this bottle until at least 2024+, hopefully it settles some more. Expected maturity 2028-33, in proper storage.
Paired to medium-rare burgers with the best ground beef we can acquire locally at this time; Kinderhook Farm (Valatie, NY), I love thee! Lettuce from our garden, BBQ sauce from our garden (2020). Tomato topping needs to wait another 1-2 weeks, this year things seem slower than normal. Southern Berkshires of Massachusetts 🤷🏻♂️
Pairs well with one-day old brownies. 😋

50/50 Syrah & Petite Syrah blend.
Color, it's so purple and dark! Reminds me of Heitz 'Ink Grade' Port.
Nose has ripe, crushed blueberry and blackberry, light creamy oak, cut plum, prune and just a touch of baking spice.
Palate has blueberry juice with acidity subdued by mellow oak, crushed blackberry, black currant, faint cedar plank, moist-tanned leather and light black pepper.
After ~3hr decant we still had trailing heat from the alcohol (15.2% ABV), but it disapated in another hour or so. A great paring with some local Delmonico steaks on the grill, cooked to a beautiful 130°F.
When good protein is served at our house eight paws will be in waiting on our dining table. My wife and I only take two of our six chairs, others will have one hungry 🐈 each. We all enjoyed a great meal tonight, some albeit some with much smaller portions.
This is the youngest version of this bottle in our cellar, the 2010 can easily reach 2023-25.

My final wine from @Shawn R 's trio wine swap is another stellar bottle. Not familiar with RBiale at all...I need to check out their lineup after enjoying this gem. This is a Petite Sirah/Syrah blend. I decanted this maybe 45mins and there was nothing bruising about it like I find common with many young sirahs/syrahs. They nailed this blend. Typical black core color. Smoked meat bursts from the glass (love that smell) accompanied by blackberries and black pepper. So incredibly well balanced and great texture on the tongue. Juicy succulent blueberries, herbs, currant. Another home run, Shawn. 👏

Mar 7th, 2017Slight bottle variation over the last bottle. Nonetheless a great bottle. Brushy cedar on entry, fine tannins show on the mid palate revealing spice and crushed blueberry.

Jul 10th, 2016Dark, deep purple in the glass. Fragrant and powerful on the nose. Scents and flavors are very complex. Cigar, blackberry and hint of Brazil Du Banana. Nice wine!

May 7th, 2016Nice petite/syrah blend. Would love to try this against the versions from marauder, prospect 772, and limerick lane.
