What a wonderful surprise, the 2012 Roagna "Pira - Vecchie Viti". It stroke me with a beguiling nose, intense pure red/black fruit aroma and minerals. "Pira" is a monopole vineyard of the Roagna family and from the oldest wines the "Vecchie Viti" emerges. For a Castiglione Barolo I find it very deep & masculine, thanks to the old vine gravitas. A terrific Barolo with a long future ahead.
