Rideau Vineyard
Estate Santa Ynez Valley Viognier
This is a wonderful Viognier from California. Even as a 4 year old, it is fresh, opulent, rich and exciting.
Showing citrus, oak, grapefruits, red apples, minerals, melons, spices, vanilla and black pepper.
Full-bodied and big and bold, with medium acidity. Beautiful legs on this white wine.
Spicy and a pleasure to drink by itself.
15.2% alcohol by volume.

Rideau Vineyard Los Olivos District Viognier 2016, California 91
Light golden in color with a yellow hue.
Strong and fruity nose with citrus, wood, white flowers, grapefruits, tropical fruits, light vanilla, minerals, white pepper and spices.
Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and nice legs. Crisp and refreshing.
Dry and fruity on the palate with lemons, citrus, pears, kiwi, spices, oak, grapefruits, vanilla, herbs, peppercorn and light vegetables.
Long finish with spices and a touch of banana bread at the very ending.
This is a nice surprise. A great Viognier from California. Well balanced and spicy, with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (20 minutes).
Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a very light brie cheese.
Has high alcohol and it's not noticeable at all, which really surprised me (in a good way).
Aged for 10 months in French oak barrels.

Had been looking forward to trying this bottle, but in the end I was just disappointed. This is your basic California Chardonnay, only made with Viognier. An over abundance of secondary fermentation led to a creamy, funky citrus. Not oaked, so there’s that, but holy cow ABV! 14.5% for a cool region white? As my wife put it: all I smell and taste is alcohol.
