On the nose, macerated dark sweet & sour cherries, black plum, blackberries, plum, black cherry cola, sweet spices, black cherry licorice and dark wild flowers. There is also a liqueur quality to the fruits. There's good bottle evolution already. Medium body that's round, rich & elegant. Tannins have no edges or bite. The fruits are ripe; black cherries, cherries, poached strawberries, ripe blackberries, black plum & semi-sweet spices. The dark rich soils also have a semi-sweet quality. Black cherry cola, black tea, sweet tarry character, soft & smooth minerals, suede style leather, dry red roses & fresh violets, a touch of Luden's cherry cough drops and the acidity is like a waterfall on the palate. The texture is round with subtle layers, full & juicy. The length is good, balance is in a good spot and the length and finish is long...lasting over a minute. Photos of the winery & estate vines, their tasting bar and the entrance sign on the Silverado Trail. The family were agricultural & livestock farmers way back in the day (I believe right around the later 30's or early 40's) long before they ever envisioned making wine.

Takes some time to open up. Once it does, ummm with lengthy finish.

Huge juicy cab with lots of chew to it. Had quite a bit of sediment. Good with a steak dinner.

A beautiful cab, rich but not overripe. Classic notes of pencil shavings, cassis and green pepper with good lift and verve. This was one of my first picks from a Macarthur's Napa Barrel Tasting and seemed a splurge at the time. Both my wife and I loved it at the time too. It has come around in a great way and is very drinkable now. When I drink wines like this, which are non-vanilla-soaked, moderately extracted Napa wines not pushed to the brink, it just underscores that my palate is not built for Napa Massive Cabs.

This wine was so good, I hoarded most of the bottle to myself. Complimented our steaks perfectly.
