Tasting through the new releases from Red Car with winemaker Carroll Kemp. The estate Syrah from Fort Ross-Seaview is a gem. Lean and tart and packed with bright fruits, with tons of pepper and spice.

I gave this an hour decant. The nose is gorgeous. Black fruits, exotic spices, hints of mint, violet, smoke. Lovely texture and food-yearning acid...that finishes abruptly with little fanfare. I love how technical Red Car is, but I’m not that into their seriously underripened style.
