Ravenswood Winery
Sangiacomo Sonoma Valley Merlot
Such a surprise! Grabbed this for fun at only $18 in DC. Deep garnet red with moderate intensity. Aged nose for sure. Started off a little pruney but opened up beautifully. A little stinkiness with damp forest floor, soft vegetal notes, little bit of red cherry and smoked fruits. Moderate tannins (5/10) and fully integrated, so silky and smooth. Medium bodied with a medium plus finish. Damp wood with a mix of dark plums and red berries. Solid acidity leading to great structure even after 17 years. Drink now will it is still holding on.

Oct 4th, 2015Leathery, like hanging out with a blacksmith in colonial America. Very tart berries, smooth on the palate. I was a wee lad when these grapes were smashed. Me likey.
