Leather and licorice on the nose. Black raspberries on the front. I can taste the calcare of the Paso highlands in the tannins, but it’s not as intense as from the wines up the road and east from Rangeland. Very pleasant to drink. It might develop some more in the next five years, but I don’t think it will get all that much better than it is now. Maybe I am underrating this wine just a bit — compared to its neighbors it’s not as intense — but if this were a wine from some other AVA, I’d probably rate it a bit higher. An excellent red to drink on its own.
