Provenance Vineyards
Paras Vineyard Merlot
Probably towards the end of its drinking window, showing fantastically though. Dark cherry and spice on the nose with notes of old leather shoes, cigar box and prunes. On the palate it retains a good tannic structure and tastes of blackberries, cherries and baking chocolate. This is fantastic.

May 15th, 2024Nose has plum preserves, ripe raspberry, mahogany shavings, crushed dark chocolate bar, fresh sage, over-ripe cherry, mashed mulberry, dried brown bread and mild stemmy notes.
Palate has blackberry/plum jam, dried blueberry, ripe black currant, (light) baking spice, wet cedar shavings, dehydrated cranberry, dried raspberry, dry potting soil and dark chocolate (high cacao content). Tannins are mild, but subtle, finish is long and satisfying.
Decanted 3h, needs another 3-5h. Future bottles may be 2023-28 without concern. Purchased January 2006.
This Mt. Veeder vineyard was beleived a victim of the 2017 CA Wine Country fires; I'm not fully sure if the damage was limited to just buildings or vines may have also suffered losses.
24 Hour Update: This bottle has really accelerated! Nose is mostly melted dark chocolate and plum, damn! Palate is so silky smooth, cedar still notable, blackberry and dried raspberry has become prominent. Minimal tannins remain this evening. Stunning bottle!

A wine I've reviewed before and continues to reward. Ribeyes from Costco also don't disappoint!

Apr 17th, 2017Wonderful color and and aromas. Cedar, raspberries, briar dehydrated black fruit.
Having with smoked ribeye roast and the sweet fruit is intense on the pallet and marries well with the entree. Mt. Veeder shows via the concentrated black fruit and graphite. Long finish with soft tannins.

2002 vintage. Even a slight cold does not slow down the deep red fruits and cedar aromas.
Flavors take more than one pass to capture the diversity.
Great acidity and still medium tannins keep fruit bright from start to finish. Tannins hold finish a long time for pomegranate, cranberry, and dark cherry to dance.
