My second taste for this rare wine, from the Dolomites area. Bottle tasted in February 2015.. Groppello gapes from a 120y.o. pre-phylloxera vineyard.
Deep and dark color, with a wood nose, very rich.
In the mouth it was very satisfying, especially paired with the braised pork cheek I selected from the menu.
I enjoyed this bottle much more than the one I tasted last October.

Vigneto delle Dolomiti IGT 2011, 13%. Bottle tasted in October 2014. Groppello gapes from a 120y.o. pre-phylloxera vineyard.
Deep and dark color, with a strong smell of bitter almond, old wood not very elegant, but interesting. Opening up nicely after a while.
Very acidic and fresh in the mouth. Not really my kind of wine.

A nerdy wine for sure. Small vineyard on a vertical slope. Good acidity and lower tannins make this a great food wine. Very good overall.
