Light garnet color with a rustic and hearty nose of damp earth, wild berries, and fresh cut violets. I'm not sure what I was expecting from this but it feels way more French than I assumed. Certainly not brash, this Merlot is a bit subtle and even shy until it gets some air. I'm happy to say it didn't dissolve into a fat mess like so many other Merlots. Predominantly cherries on the palate with nice touches of chocolate and spice. The real kicker here is the menthol taste throughout. More L&M and Newport and less Kools. Medium bodied with firmish tannins and pleasant acidity. An absolute unexpected gem.
