Had a bottle of this about 4 years ago and it seemed a little scorchy and astringent, though there was decent fruit. I thought, with a degree of caution, that it might improve with a few years of age, and it has. Nose is quite unique, with loads of very iron-y baked earth, some old furniture scent, but still some nice red fruit. Nice attack with fruit leading, but the bone dry palate then transitions to savory notes. Tannins have softened, but still a teensy bit drying in the finish. Will go nicely with a scottiglia (of sorts) that’s braising.

Sep 20th, 2026A solid bargain-priced Brunello. Nose has hot gravel and brick, leather, and dark berry scents. Just a tad scorchy. Dark, stewed fruit in the mouth competes with lots of scorched earth and slightly astringent tannins. A little heat too. I’d give this a few more years and hope the tannins resolve a bit more.

What a difference a year makes - Kelly was NOT a fan of the 2016, but the 2017 earns high marks from her; Craig liked it as well once it had a chance to breath a bit.
