A tasting of nine Poggio Antico Brunellos, spanning 1985 to 2007, including two Riservas and three Alteros. Found this one to be a bit thin

I love spaghetti bolognese night, especially when Mr Spittoon cooks 😉
It also means a night for red wine in stemless glasses, as we like to pretend we’re in Italy 🇮🇹. If only!!
After receiving this sample of Altero 2018 Sangiovese from Fleurieu Peninsula (SA) recently, I knew it was was destined for Spag Bol night. Thank you Cellarmasters!
If you didn’t see my recent post about Altero, it’s a new range from winemaker Mike Farmilo. As he describes on the back label: “An explorative collection of wines created from alternative grape varietals. Built to challenge your palate, these wines are packed with soul and complexities like no other”.
Here’s what Mr Spittoon and I thought:
It’s a pretty ruby red shade in the glass. On the nose it’s a cherry bomb, full of fresh vibrant fruit. In the mouth those juicy cherries follow through from the nose and are laced with a hint of spice, tea leaves and lick of strawberry. A delicious match with our good old spag bol 🍝
And only $15 by the bottle in a case!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
