Silky, nice acidity, a little wet earth, tea, currant, cranberry, hint of cedar, leather, and spice, from 80-year-old vines in a prime Barbaresco plot. From Flatiron Wines.

Day 2 open. Nose of juicy ripe red plum, white pepper and some earth. The palate has good the red plum coming through, but more on the tart skins. chalky tannins and solid acidity. This can definitely use a couple years, but goes well now with food. A bit tight. Maybe it’s the greens I’m eating not working with it.

Forever changing since opening up, array of (mainly) red fruits cruising through to some black cherry. Fresh acid, fair whack of desirable grip, longish finish.

Crushed dried cherries with that sense if the earth, coffee grounds. Warm, a sense of iron and minerality. Fresh, now a touch of anise, in a nice way. Now se raspberry. Cedar. Really nice! I love the sense of the earth.
